Our Website
The anchor to all of what we are doing at Choose
To Laugh is our website. In it you will find
information on our upcoming events, resources
for humor and its relation to cancer, suggested
readings, links to others cancer websites,
survivorship stories, news and forums. It is
vibrant, energetic and aims to positively alter
perceptions of cancer survivorship and diagnosis.
Our Events
Choose To Laugh produces comedy fundraising
shows on behalf of our foundation and
other cancer related organizations we
have aligned ourselves with. In recognition
of National Cancer Survivors Day and
in collaboration with the NCSD foundation
we are producing our first annual Comedians
For Cancer benefit show. If you
are interested in hosting or producing
a Choose To Laugh comedy show in your
area please feel free to contact us at
shane@choosetolaugh.org. We can provide
you with all the necessities and materials
to get you going.
Our Resources
This is an evolving program we won’t
deny that. In our resources
section you
will find anything from articles on why
use humor in dealing with cancer to links
to other cancer related websites. If you
would like to contribute or have suggestions
or changes please email us at: ben@choosetolaugh.org
Our Humor Visits
One of our developing programs are humor
visits. If you are an oncology professional,
family or friend of a survivor and think
a little dose of humor would help some
people out, contact
us – we can
arrange the visit! From clowns to comedians,
we will cater the visit to your occasion … just
let us know what you have in mind.
Our Ad Campaigns
Call this our big dream, but one day in
oncology wards across America we’d
like our ad book to be distributed. What’s
in it, you ask? We are picking particular
experiences in the realm of a cancer
diagnosis, survivorship or screenings
designed to promote survivorship, support
newly diagnosed patients, stimulate pro-activity,
and lessen the stigma of cancer amongst
the non-cancer community.
Do you work for an ad agency? If so, we
want your help! We need creative people,
graphic designers, photographers, copywriters,
researchers, focus group administrators,
printers and lots of other things to get
this off the ground! Contact shane@choosetolaugh.org if you want to get involved or have some
ideas for the ads.
Our Humor Store
We’ve tied up with ePrank.com to
offer some very funny gags… this
stuff will make you laugh! But, warning,
some of it is crude and insensitive (some
of it). Well the good thing is that anything
you buy ePrank.com donates 40% of the sale
to our fund! How cool is that? (Thank you,
Daniel Starr, for that arrangement). Check
out the Humor Store.
Our Choose to Laugh Grants
At certain points
in our life, our organization will be in
fundraising
mode. At the conclusions of any rounds
of fundraising we will be
allocating funds to pre-approved grant
requests. Are you an oncology
professional involved in a research activity
in need of funding? We are
particular to work around the physiology
of a cancer diagnosis and the
psychological evaluation of a positive
approach as it relates to the
overall well being of a patient. If this
sounds like an area of work that
you are focused please send us a request
for funding. Our first group of
grant recipients have been selected on
the basis of our own interest and
experience with the illness. Going forward
we would ideally be able to
field a selection of grants and select
particular programs to support
within them to support. Please contact
Shane if you are interested in
being considered: shane@choosetolaugh.org.
Suggestions and Your Involvement
Like any charitable or business venture
we are constrained by resources (lack
of time, money and people). The above
represents what we think we can feasibly
do in the short term… but, ya
know, the world is our oyster.
If you’ve got ideas, want to get
involved, please send us a note! We find
strength in the contribution of others… so
get involved! If anything pops into that
big old head of yours shoot us a note – we’d
love to hear from yah!
Signed,
Choose To Laugh |
