Integral to the Choose to Laugh
philosophy is the idea that attitude affects
one’s well-being and ability to heal.
Equally true is the notion that environment
profoundly affects one’s attitude.
Against this backdrop, we collaborated
with the Wellness Community of West Los
Angeles to create the first ever Choose
to Laugh Library. With the help of designer
Ella Cottrell and other numerous passionate
people and organizations, Choose to Laugh
was able to transform this room into a
communal space of positivity, joy and healing.
Special Thanks
Choose to Laugh would like to extend a very
special thanks to the extraordinary generosity
of the following individuals and organizations,
without whom the Choose to Laugh Library
would not have been possible:

What is the
Wellness Community?
Founded in 1982, the mission of the Wellness
Community is to help people with cancer and
their loved ones enhance their health and well-
being by providing a professional program of
emotional support, education, and hope. The
place is really fantastic; you can find everything
from Stress Management Workshops to Yoga to
group and individual therapy 6 days a week,
all year round. The best part – the Wellness
Community is completely free of charge for
cancer patients, their friends and family.
The Wellness Community is a 501(c)(3), nonprofit
organization that does not charge for any of
its services. It is supported by tax-deductible
contributions from the public and from organizations
like Choose to Laugh, Inc. For more information
you can visit The
Wellness Community–West LA Website.
What is Choose to Laugh providing to the
Wellness Community?
The Choose to Laugh Comedy
Library and Screening Room.
One of Choose to Laugh’s main ideologies
is that attitude affects one’s ability
to overcome adversity. Knowing that environment
has a great affect on one’s attitude,
Choose to Laugh realized there was an opportunity
to have a great impact on the Wellness Community.
Recently, the Wellness Community gained access
to a new 1100 square foot addition to their
facility. What if we used this opportunity
to demonstrate that a well designed environment
can positively effect one’s attitude,
and in turn, one’s ability to heal?
We have teamed up with the Wellness Community
to reinvigorate part of the 1100 square foot
space. In it we are creating a room, not
just any room, but a place where environment
and content can help inspire the right state
of mind for healing.
In developing this room Choose to Laugh
is taking full responsibility for its layout,
structure and design. The room’s primary
function will be that of a comedy library
and screening room. Every visitor to the
Wellness Community will have access to its
wide selection of comedy titles that we plan
to provide. The library will operate similar
to your local video store, except no late
charges, no membership and no deadlines.
We are also going to be contributing furniture
including a big screen television and couches
to allow visitors to pop-in a comedy selection
of their choice right at the Wellness Community.
Laughter, the best medicine, will be available
all day, anytime in a comfortable, easy-to-access
environment.
How can you help?
There are a number of ways any of you can
get involved in our project for the Wellness
Community:
• Donate comedy – Yes DVDs, Video
Cassettes, Books, anything… we would
love your donations to make our library full
and complete
• Donate furniture – this is a little
trickier but if you’d like to donate
a piece of furniture or the finances to get
one, please feel free to be in touch
• Donate your time – if you are
an architect or interior designer and would
like to see your talents go to great use, you
can get involved. We are looking for unique,
budget conscience ideas to make the Choose
to Laugh Comedy Library a great success
• If you would like to be involved, simply
